When his boss announces the company’s plans to downsize, a disgruntled employee (Keiji Sada) holds a gun to his head in protest. Though his suicide attempt fails, he is hailed as a hero in the media, with his defiant pose subsequently used on posters in a life insurance company’s nationwide advertising campaign. An adaptation of a screenplay (“Heroes Thirst”) Yoshida wrote during his time as an assistant director, Blood Is Dry proved controversial for its scathing critique o fthe humanism then prevalent in Japanese cinema.
