「ポーランド派」の若き筆頭監督として『地下水道』（1957年）や『灰とダイヤモンド』（1958年）で世界の映画界に新風を巻き起こし、後には『大理石の男』（1977年）や『鉄の男』（1981年）を発表して当時の社会主義体制にも抗いながら、ポーランドがたどった苛酷な歴史の雄弁な語り手として、またポーランド文学の名作をたびたび翻案して壮大な物語世界を築き上げてきた巨匠監督アンジェイ・ワイダ（1926-2016）。
この展覧会は、ワイダ監督の60年以上の作品歴を通じて生まれた、日本美術技術博物館Manggha（マンガ）のコレクションを中心とする貴重な資料群からポーランドの専門家が構成したもので、2019年にクラクフ国立美術館で開催された企画の初の海外巡回です。この東京展では、ワイダ監督が築いた日本との深い関係を示す独自の章を加えて、その作家像と作品世界を紹介します。

展覧会の内容
展覧会の内容
ポーランド国内の各機関の全面協力のもとに開催される大規模回顧展
2019年にポーランドで開催されたワイダ監督の大規模回顧展が、ポーランド国内の各機関の全面協力のもと初めての海外巡回として東京にやってまいります。クラクフの日本美術技術博物館Mangghaのコレクションを中心とした資料が集結する内容はそのままに、監督が生涯にわたって育んだ日本との深いつながりに着目する東京展独自の視点も設け、約190点の展示品で監督の功績を振り返ります。
実資料の陳列にとどまらない多角的な展示内容
美術学校出身で絵画の才に恵まれた監督本人によるスケッチ、映画祭の受賞トロフィー、さらには作品で着用された衣裳など、多岐にわたる資料を実物展示するだけにとどまらず、ビデオプロジェクションやデジタル展示を始めとするさまざまな展示方法を駆使して、その作品世界について立体的にお示しします。
会期中には展覧会と連動した特集上映を開催
会期冒頭の12月10日（火）から26日（土）には、同じタイトルの特集上映も開催いたします。日本劇場未公開作品のほか、2022年に閉館した岩波ホール旧蔵の35mmプリントを用いた上映まで含んだ全14本のラインナップは必見です。
展覧会の構成
zone 1 子どもの神話
少年期のワイダの精神を形作り、映画でも表現された19世紀 ポーランドへの憧憬を取り上げます。
zone 2 地獄
絶望的状況の中でナチの支配に抵抗したポーランドの民衆をワイダはいかに描いたか、「抵抗三部作」の一つとして知られる『灰とダイヤモンド』を始めとする作品とともに振り返ります。
zone 3 新しい波
1950年代後半から世界映画を刷新した《新しい波》の一翼を担う「ポーランド派」の筆頭として、ワイダは映画の革新性をさらに推し進めました。
zone 4 革命
ワイダは労働者たちの「連帯」に一貫して併走し、体制変革の一角を担いました。
zone 5 （不）死
ワイダ映画のもう一つの顔――文芸映画に見られる静けさとノスタルジアに迫ります。
zone 6 日本
日本の美術や風土を愛したワイダと、ワイダの映画を誠実に紹介した日本の深い関わりに注目します。
