FIAF

NFAJ has been a member of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) since 1989, and through close coordination and cooperation with its member institutions we have collected precious Japanese films scattered outside of Japan. Also, we conduct international cultural exchange by loaning and borrowing materials from each other’s collections, as well as holding international symposia and lectures on motion pictures.

NFAJ’s activities in FIAF

- We take part in the annual congress, provide and share the latest research and information on film preservation internationally, and publish the results through newsletters etc.

- We hosted FIAF 2007 Tokyo (63rd FIAF Congress).

- We have held “In Celebration of UNESCO World Day for Audiovisual Heritage” annually since 2008.

- Our director Hisashi Okajima (chief curator of the then National Film Center) became the first FIAF President from Asia (2009-2011).
